(AFA 09)The Figure Show @SG

One major draw of this year’s AFA was bring the Tokyo Figure Show to Singapore.  It was also an opportunity for us to catch a glimpse of  Danny Choo, who brought with him a fantastic lineup from Good Smile Company (affectionately known as GSC). For those who are still left lingering in the dark, GSC is responsible for depleting my financial resources as they keep creating and selling lovely pose-able figurines like Nendoroids (and figmas). And in some attempt at keeping track of my purchases, I have created a corner on my sidebar that lists the Nendos that will be joining my chibi army in the following months.

Now onto the figures…

Photobucket

The lovely lady above is the Figma incarnation of  Mirai Suenaga, site mascot for dannychoo.com.

Photobucket

And here we have comrade Kodomut’s itachari. Makes me wish I there was one on a more Nendo scale for my Nendos to play with.

Photobucket

There was the whole Nendoroid lineup, from the oldest to the newest release. Since I have quite a few Nendos in my collection already, I didn’t spent much time taking pictures of them. But I like this picture as it features Nendoroid Melissa Seraphy, who I think is super duper cute! She is one Nendoroid I don’t have and will kill to get. Looks like she is on my wishlist to get while I’m in Japan sometime next week. =)

Photobucket

Mikuru looking good in her Meido outfit. I kind of like Mikuru, but she was a little too wimpy for my taste.

Photobucket

And I have no idea who this is… But I totally adore this backview. I actually like looking at scaled figures but I will never invest monnies to get one because of the lack of display space I have. And my logic is that if I have it, I should flaunt it, and not keep it hidden in a box under my bed.

Photobucket

I have no idea who this is either. But I love the angle and attention to detail.

And lastly, we have the famous Black Rock Shooter figurine. She is simply gorgeous. And I hope I will get a chance to steal her from *someone*, so I can get upclose and personal with this alternate version of Hatsune Miku.

Photobucket

More dollies tomorrow. Stay tuned. =D

(AFA 09) Randomness.

December 8, 2009 dcal 6 comments

Photobucket

AFA 09 has matured since it’s first showing in 2008 . There were more exciting exhibits and special guest that had my fangirl senses tingling. However, the major factors that made AFA 09 truly an enjoyable experience has to be attributed to the comrades that I was with (you-know-who-you-are) and the fun discussions that occurred during all those times we spent waiting.

Photobucket

First thing I did was queue up to get into the KKnM booth. Which was pretty stupid in retrospective as I didn’t really want to get anything from the shop (that I couldn’t get from the shop normally)… but I still walked away with a Project Diva mug, a GA Art Class shitajiki and an assortment of loot for friends who couldn’t make it for AFA Day 1.

Photobucket

I think a major draw to queuing up was getting a chance to practice queuing for C77. =P Gotta love how the queue system was sort of more organized this year. And I was actually quite lucky as I was in the first 30 peeps in line. But I was stuck for quite a bit at the front of the queue because the people ahead of me was taking forever looting the event special items. =_=

Photobucket

And the queue behind me. Checkout all the fanboys and dire lack of fangirls.

Photobucket

I suggested to the KKNM staff that they should try setting up two lines next time around. One for fangirls and one for fanboys. So the poor fangirls who just want their Hetalia and KHR stuff don’t have to huddle in the midst of fanboy discussions, over Monster Hunt and which Bakamonogatari girl is their waifu, while waiting. =_=”

Photobucket

And another pic as I left the booth and took a peek at the end of the line which had grown to an incredible length.

Photobucket

The Visual Arts Society (VAS) of NTU comprises of three sub-clubs that cover Anime, Comics and Design. In some sense, getting involved with VAS during my University days is the reason I am who I am today. I started out being the Chairperson of Animeworks and eventually rose the ranks to become the President of the whole club. Being part of VAS has provided me with an opportunity to meet people of similar interests and create a circle of friends who I can share my passions with. I’m really glad to be part of the club’s growth and seeing VAS being part of AFA really makes me feel proud. Though I have moved on from my VAS days, I’ll continue rooting for the club and hope that others will get a chance to experience the fun times I had when I was in VAS.

Photobucket

One of the things we did in VAS is that we had regular movie screening or outings of Anime movies. Thus, looking at this signed poster of Summer Wars makes me nostalgic of those times. =)

Okay, now onto more irrelevant pictures:

Photobucket

These doll clothes (approx Azone/Barbie sized) are the creations from the students from SOTA?  I’m not very sure. The display up were quite nice and interesting. Sadly I didn’t notice anyone nearby that was manning the booth who could explain more about what the whole display was about.

Photobucket

Here are cartons of UCC coffee with Evangelion characters emblazed on the cans. Which was a clever marketing idea since the second Eva movie was being shown in local cinemas during this point of time.

Photobucket

Production I.G had booth too! Just wished there were more interesting stuff up on display.

Photobucket

DOMO-KUN. He’s like a permanent fixture at all Anime-related events. =D

Photobucket

BANDAI has some of the cutest petite figures. =)

Photobucket

Here are some Prop Plus Petit from FMA. Al is so darn adorable!

Photobucket

And some more from Kuroshitsuji. One major problem I had with the display is the DUST. It’s so annoying that the glass was dusty and had smudges from fangirls trying to press their face up to the glass to get a closer look at the chibis.

Photobucket

Besides a whole host of chibi figures targeted at the fangirl demographics, there were also some for the boys.

Photobucket

The K-on girls looks good. =)

Photobucket

The girls were in their school uniforms…

Photobucket

and also in their concert gear.

Photobucket

I love Azu-nyan!

Photobucket

Lastly, we have a human-sized GUNDAM~! =D

More AFA 09 pics later.

(Dailybits) Raspberyl Ice-cream

December 4, 2009 dcal 5 comments

Have a bite of Nendo Raspberyl if you dare. =P

Anyone missed me? =D

Since the end of my school term and the start of my holidays, I’ve been busy busy busy. After working hard, it has been time to play even harder. I have been pretty caught up in a whirlwind of social engagements and my Nendos remain neglected.

Let’s see if I can get the posting groove back and start posting more consistently. =P

(Dailybits) Bring Sexy Back.

November 26, 2009 dcal 4 comments

It has been a crazy crazy week. First with all the assignments due, then with the huge ass party called AFA 09, I have not have time to stop and take a break. -_-”" So here’s just one picture which was taken during AFA, which has nothing directly to do with the event itself, before I start paying back my massive sleep debt.

This is the gorgeous backview of comrade Arayden’s lovely DD Saber (?). I personally prefer the old school Super Dollfies… but this girl is simply delicious. =D

There will be an obligatory AFA review blog post, but it will have to wait till I have time, and have the mood to sort through the pile of pictures that were taken. Till then, I’ll just keep posting random pics. ^^

(Dailybits) Oh Christmas Tree~!

November 20, 2009 dcal Leave a comment

I’ve been buried in assignments lately. And before I knew it, Christmas decorations have mushroomed all around me. Here’s Misao telling me to take a break and look around to see all the pretty lights. =)

(Dailybits) Yako resurfaces

November 19, 2009 dcal 7 comments

It’s been a while since Yako had some airtime. =) This pic is from an archive of neglected photographs. I vaguely remember taking this picture near some old HDB flats above Bras Basah Complex.  It’s quite a unique juxtaposition, having HDB flats sticking out in the midst of a busy business and shopping district.

(Dailybits) Experimental photography?

November 13, 2009 dcal 6 comments

This is a scan of a cross-processed photograph. ^^ The cost of using traditional photography in this style is  half the price of a nendo for the film and developing of the photos.

(Dailybits) Nyan~!

Nothing like a little nyan nyan from Misao to spice up my day. =)

(Dailybits) Figma Misao

November 11, 2009 dcal 9 comments

I think I might be one of the few who got Figma Kagami for just Misao’s head. =D Misao-chan is soooooo darn cute~!

Kagami will probably never see the light of day… at least on this blog. =P

Gotta find some time to bring out all the figma girls to have some fun. ^^

(Dailybits) Rainy days are meant for play

November 9, 2009 dcal 9 comments

Since today was a rainy day, I thought that I should post something along those lines. =D

Picture from the previous meetup at Chinatown. It was raining and we were trapped at the Red Dot Museum. Konata decided to make full use of the opportunity to have some fun while the rest of us just waited for the rain to stop. =)

Credit goes to Nyanko-sempai for risking the downpour to catch Konata in action.
