(Events) Natsu Matsuri 09

August 25, 2009 dcal 6 comments

Because I’m procrastinating, I’m going to do some belated photo blogging. =)

Photobucket

Starting with Natsu Matsuri 09. It was by sheer luck that I managed to get tickets from some dear twitter/lj friend of friends. And it allowed us to jump the queue and dive straight into the festivities.

This year’s event was blessed with clear skies and lovely weather! (A positive contrast to last year’s wet and dreary affair.) And because we could go in early, we managed to catch a glimpse of this awesome sky scape.

(Events) August is a month for celebrations!

August 4, 2009 dcal 4 comments

It seems like AFA 08 was just a short while ago and now we have the organizers for AFA 09 rallying up anticipation for Nov 21 & 22. But before we get carried away with freebies, there are few big events that might concern the Singaporean Otaku (self-coined term).

First thing off, we have

Singapore Toy Games & Comic Convention (STGCC)

Date: 14-16 August 2009

Venue: Suntec International Exhibition & Convention Centre (Hall 401 & 402)

Time: 11.00am – 9.00pm

Entrance: Free Admission

NOTES: STGCC09 is due to hit the shores less then ten days! As I had not been to the STGCC 08, I am not sure what to expect. But it should be sortof like AFA but with more emphasis for western spin on things? It’s time to rally up the crew and head down to Suntec Convention Centre (also home to AFA) to check things out. Hope I’ll have a working DSLR by then. =)

Next up,

A.C.M.E – A Certain Magical Event

Date: 22nd August 2009 (Saturday)

Venue: Nayang Academy of Fine Arts Seminar Room (2nd Floor)

Time: 11.00am – 5.00pm

Entrance: Free Admission

NOTES: This event is for more hardcore fans as it encourages excessive spending on Anime merchandise, Doll accessories, Gundam Kits, Doujin & Artwork and much more . There is a also a Weis Schwarz Tournament. This event also seems to relatively Cosplay-free, as there are no related activities involved. The only cosplay that is going to be around is all the enthusiastic otaku boys in their COSPA t-shirts. I might wear my Sadaharu (from Gintama) t-shirt! =D

Natsu Matsuri

Date: Saturday, 22 August 2009
Time: 6pm to 10pm
Venue: Japanese Primary School Changi Campus
Admission: $2 per person

NOTES: Last year’s Natsu Matsuri was plagued by a massive downpour that made walking around in a Yukata challenging. Hopefully there won’t be any rain and we all can dance BON-ODORI under the night’s sky.

(Nendoroid) Chibi Oppai Wars

Some of the challenges of figurine photograph include:

+ Having the tenacity and pigheadedness to set the shoot up in random locations

+ Developing an oblivious attitude to stares from curious strangers who perceive our activities as “crazy”

+ To ignore the guilt of taking up a spot in a crowded fastfood outlet with the frail excuse of having just a large cup of coke

Introducing Louise

louise-copy

Finally done with my exams and my entire university education!! And what better way to celebrate than to bring out the girls for some fun. =D This is just an introductory post to the latest addition to the family, Louise from Zero no Tsukaima. She is just a sweety pie is the resident Tsundere in the family. As I still have yet to complete posting the other two photoshoots… don’t expect to see Louise and Yoko in action anytime soon. But with the end of school commitments, I might find more time to post pictures around her. No promises though. =P

Chibi Gallery: Yako, Miku & Yuki (4/5)

Miku bestows the honarable Leek to Yuki, initiating the Figma into the official Chibi Gallery club.

Before going on with the rest of the photoshoot pictures, let me digress onto a bit…

The latest information on Nendoroid Sebastian is out on the Goodsmile Company website!! He looks much better in colour compared to the previous images of him in his un-colored form. Looks like there won’t be much accessories apart from a tormented black kitty. =D I like his ‘evil’ face but the other smiley faces look kindof odd. I hope it’s just an issue with the product photography and that the actual figurine will be awesome. The site also mentions that Ciel is in the works and ‘once released will allow you to create a wonderful “Master and Servant” scene.’ Looks like the marketing people know how to hit the right buttons with Fangirls.-lol- As much as I love butler-moe Sebastian, I am more of a Ciel fangirl. Can’t wait to see what his nendoroid will look like.

And as it stands… I have many new additions to my chibi family on the way.

Nendoroids

Yako, Miku, Yoko

On Preorder-
Itoshiki (March)
Louise (April)
Nagi (May)
Zange(?)
Japanese Life Playsets A & B
Sebastian (July)
Ciel(?)

Let’s not forget my Code Geass figmas Lelouch and Suzaku.

I have evolved into a Nendoroid nut. That’s the problem with my obsessive compulsive nature. -sigh- Pities my fragile wallet.

Oh well, onto with the pictures!! Read more…

Chibi Gallery: Nendoroid Hatsune Miku

wth

Hatsune Miku is probably the most prolific of all the Vocaloid character mascots. Her rise to fame has to be credited to her virtual fandom and fan made videos that have taken the idea of Hatsune Miku and evolved it. In other words, Hatsune Miku’s persona, character has been build upon by the fans for other fans. Very much like Artgerm’s Pepper, Hatsune Miku has become a convenient tool of expression, which fans use for their artistic endeavors.

Personally, I wasn’t a fan of Hatsune Miku, till I saw her Nendoroid. With weakness for cute things was exploited when I saw Chibit Miku. I knew I had to have Nendoroid Hatsune Miku when I saw her silly (OoO) face and Leek waving. But the Nendoroid has been released waaaaaaay before the craze caught me. I had trouble getting her till there was a re-release of her figurine. And here are the pictures!

Fujoshi Kanojo – 腐女友

December 16, 2008 dcal 3 comments

It’s 5am in the morning and I can’t sleep, so here I am, writing a post on the meaning of life. Specifically my life a fujoshi.

For the uninitiated, the definition of a fujoshi have been personally elaborated here. With that out of the way, let me begin.

It all started with reading Fujoshi Kanojo (我的腐女友) by Pentabu. It was highly enjoyable and got me thinking… why don’t I have a boyfriend that I can torture?

Let me illustrate the premise for my following discussion, with a little background information. (May contain spoilers. You have been warned. =D)

Fujoshi Kanojo is a blog-turn-best-seller-novel of a normal Japanese man, Pentabu, and he blogs about his fujoshi girlfriend. He started the relationship

with “Y子”, who was his superior at a part-time job, without prior knowledge of her “preferences”. With the innocent belief that “love will triumph”, Pentabu slowly adjusts to the ways of a fujoshi. As for the character Y子, I salute her for her prized catch. In my humble opinion, she has managed to nab an ideal boyfriend. Why?
