奥 華子 – Oku Hanako

Oku Hanako is a Japanese pop artist who uses her keyboard almost exclusively in her works. She mostly does piano ballads. She probably best know for her involvement in the Japanese animated feature film, “時をかける少女, Toki o Kakeru Shōjo” or The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The theme song to the film is “Garnet” (ガーネット, Gānetto^?), and the insert song used in the film is “Kawaranai Mono” (変わらないもの, lit. Unchanging Thing(s)^?). Both songs were written, composed, and sung by singer-songwriter Oku Hanako, however the latter song was arranged by Jun Satō.
My Thoughts:
Toki Kake is one of my favourite anime movies ever and besides falling in love with the story, I was seriously affected by the sweet simplicity of Oku Hanako’s vocals. I find that much of today’s music rely on messy arrangements of a whole barrage of musical sounds. Which makes her music stand out for the simple piano/keyboard accompaniment and her voice. Though not as awe inspiring in terms of vocals as powerhouse singers like Ayaka (my other personal favourite), her songs are as meaningful and filling with emotion. If i were to illustrate her music, it would be like having a picnic with my best friends while having chocolate sundaes in the field filled with sunflowers and sunshine. I am currently nursing a cold, so forgive me if i sound as if I am on a drug induced high… must be the overdose of cold tablets XD

So here I am sharing her music. She has another single in the works which will be the theme of a Japanese movie coming out soon this year. More info on her official website provided in the link above.
